Best Heavy Metal Album?

The guitar mix is cool, but the rest of the production is $#!+ Don’t get me wrong, songwise AJFA is far and away their best effort. However, the vocals are not far enough forward in the mix and there’s no bass at all. I call it candidate #1 for a remastering.

Maiden - Powerslave is my fav
Sabbath - Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath
Megadeth - Countdown to Extinction
Priest - Hell Bent fot Leather
Motorhead - No Sleep 'til Hammersmith
Pantera - Vulgar Rules! (if you can ignore the white supremecist sub-text and just go with the music)

Honorable Mentions:
Corrosion of Conformity - Blind
Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell (first with Dio)

(There’s no such thing as one best HM album)

R.I.P. Joe Anthony, the Godfather
(ROCK ‘n’ Roll!)

No bass??? Dude I thrashed both my Bazookas on that album. The double bass is insane. Listen to that album on a system with some large subs.

Man, you guys have nailed a lot of the great classics. I have to say one of the CDs I can always go back to though is Korn’s first album. It is very angry and driven.

“fuck you, I’m fed up with you, I’m not as good you, I’m far better than you…”

“Man you ain’t shit turn around can’t you face me…”

“You’ll suck my dick and fuckin’ like it…”

“I can see, I can see, I’m goin’ blind…”

“Ball Tongue!”

Reign in Blood

no doubt

Soundgarden

Badmotorfinger

“Stare at me in your Jesus Christ pose…”

Lots of classics already represented, so rather than echo whats been said…

Life of Agony-River Runs Red

end of story.

“I’m gonna break my rusty cage and…RUUUUNN!”
Oh yeah, best workout music ever for me.

I don’t know how some of these bands are passing as Heavy Metal but I’ll just go with it. My all time favorite album is a close tie between Fear Factory - Demanufacture and Arch Enemy - Wages of Sin. I can listen to either of these albums for hours on end and never tire of them.

Like who, besides Soundgarden?

I noticed a lot of Pantera fans. Me personally I find The Great Southern Trendkill better, but that, Vulgar Display of Power, and Cowboys From Hell may be the greatest CD’s ever released.

Tool-Anema
Tool-Lateralus
Metallica-Master of Puppets
Metallica-Kill em All
Pantera-Cowboys from Hell
AC/DC-Back in Black
Danzig-Danzig
Danzig-How the Gods Kill
Korn-Korn

HELL YEAH!! No life till leather!!!

judas priest.

english steel.

Of course I know there is no right answer. I grew up on Maiden right around the switch from Paul Di’Anno to Bruce Dickinson. Piece of Mind just strikes me as some of the strongest Maiden writing and playing with just a great vibe. You can feel the energy the band had recording that one.

If I want to stretch the category to Industrial-Thrashcore I’d say Ministry’s The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste ranks up there too.

Up the Irons!!

That one is good, but I like the Psalm 69 one better.

Megadeth Peace Sells and Rust in Peace.

Priest Screaming for Vengeance.

Slayer Reign in Blood, Seasons in The Abyss. Hell Awaits

Sepultura the one with Dead Embryonic Cells on it.

Overkill the one with Shred on it.

Exodus Bonded by Blood.

Korn first 2.

Really? It thought it has been a downward spiral since Mind. Same with Revolting Cocks post Beers, Steers and Queers.

Bonded by Blood was a good one. Pirhrana! The first Nuclear Assault was good and the original S.O.D. was good too. Maybe not best, but I enjoyed those albums.
