Best Christmas Movie

'Tis the season and I noticed there are many movie lovers here … so let it out.

I vote for Gremlins,
with Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas(“What’s This?”) a close second.

A little scary, but just enough.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh A Christmas Story. End of discussion!

a Christmas Story

“I want an Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle!”

“You’ll shoot your eye out kid”

Classic!

I will have to second “A Christmas Story” Nothing even comes close. National Lampoons Christmas Vacation takes second place.

The 70s musical “Scrooge” with Albert Finney. I love the song “I Hate People”!

Good choice.
I’ll shoot people who mention Home Alone though.

You should see the parody on that movie in “A Blackadder Christmas Special”.
Rowan Atkinson actually turns from the kindest man in London to a big bastard.
Wakes up in the morning and hears a child at his window.

“What could that be?” asks a servant
pushes child off of ladder at first-story window
“My own Christmas joy.”

Genius.

“Hmm, frah-gee-lay. Must be Italian.”

“That’s fragile, dear.”

Another vote for A Christmas Story.

“Deck the halls with boughs of horry, ra ra ra ra ra, ra ra ra ra.”

“My father worked in profanity the way other artists might work in oils or clay. It was his true medium, a master.”

My vote goes for Bad Santa.

It always gets me in the Christmas spirit.

Gotta be Christmas Story hands down. That scene where the mom is yelling at her son over the phone for teaching her son the F word…hilarious.

Badder Santa.

  1. A Christmas Story - all the good lines have pretty much been quoted already.

  2. Christmas Vacation - “That there is an RV, Clark”

I would call it a tie between Christmas Story and Nightmare Before Christmas, both classics.

Christmas Vacation is up there too.

Another vote for:

  1. A Christmas Story
  2. Natl Lampoon Christmas Vacation

DB

A Christmas Story

My favorite quote is after Ralphie cracks the secret code:
“Be sure to drink your Ovaltine. Ovaltine? A crummy commercial? Son of a bitch!”

Agreed.

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles is a fantastic and underrated holiday movie.

Absolutely.
I’m starting to think that many people haven’t seen Nightmare Before Christmas …

A side note : I just was thinking about which movies I saw other years, and so far I tricked 3 girlfriends into seeing Die Hard when it was on … manly and a Christmas movie. It’s a holiday miracle !

Although not really a Christmas movie, I like Groundhog Day as well …

Oh yeah ! I totally forgot about that one …

“Del: You play with your balls a lot.
Neal: I do NOT play with my balls.
Del: Larry Bird doesn’t do as much ball-handling in one night as you do in an hour!
Neal: Are you trying to start a fight?
Del: No. I’m simply stating a fact. That’s all. You fidget with your nuts a lot.
Neal: You know what’d make me happy?
Del: Another couple of balls, and an extra set of fingers?”

Cheezy, but o so good.
