Best Cert for Personal Training?

#1

I have trained in various gyms across the U.S., and noticed that many personal trainers suck. But they have the paper credentials such as expensive college degrees and the right certifications, so it's all good.

Based upon certification recognition, cost, and time of program factors, what should be the first certification I attempt to obtain in order to legitimately try to sell myself for a job at the major gym chains or to put on a business card and small ads for freelance personal training work?

Would appreciate insight from anyone in the know on this. Thanks.

i'd ask at one of the major gym chains what they tend to look for.

Asking the employer will help as said above. Also, from the consumer standpoint, most don't know a difference between the certs.
