Benching Question

i’ve noticed that a lot of the big/shredded guys at the gym do this thing on the bench where they start from the up position and only go a little bit less than halway down and then go back up…they do this about 8-10 times.

what are the benefits of doing this? thanks

I don’t know. I dare you to ask them.

They’re called partials. The following article talks about them a little bit, including their benefits:

Basically, partials limit the range of motion to where you’re strongest, so you’re able to use more weight, which can help stimulate growth. As mentioned in the article, though, they shouldn’t take the place of full ROM reps; they’re a supplemental technique that should be used occasionally.
