Bench Press Lockout

Hey Guys,

Do you go to a full extension aka lock elbows in the bench press? Reason I ask this is when I do my retracted shoulder blades come out and I loose tension. (This could be a weak back problem) I am new to lifting so I am learning and fixing my bench press one section at a time.

Yes, complete the lockout. Keep your shoulder blades pinched together the whole time. Pretend there’s a pencil between them and you are trying to keep it from falling. Secondly, imagine pushing yourself away from the weight rather than the weight away from you. Don’t shrug your shoulders toward your pecs at lockout. It raises them off the bench and that’s where you are loosing stability.
