Barbell Only, Assistance Exercises?

I never really fallowed bodybuilding workouts in the past. I mainly did powerlifter workouts. I still do Jim Wendlers 5/3/1 because it covers all the main basic barbell lifts and it is a pretty good workout with high weight and fairly low reps. But i was looking into doing bodybuilder auxiliaries such as curls, dips, stiff leg DL, front squats etc. The only problem is all i have is barbells and plate weight. I dont have dumbells.

So i need auxiliaries that i can do with a barbell and i dont know how to structure them to get big. That is what i mainly want is to get big and strong. I do a 4 day split with 5/3/1. Monday Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Monday is Squat, Tuesday is Bench press, Thursday is standing millitary press and firday is dead lift. What would be good auxiliaries for those days and sets and reps? Thanks!

Have you read any of the books?

No trolls! LOL

Wow. So you only have access to the things that Olympic weight lifters do? Lucky bastard.

Whilst on the subject, on BBB 3 month challenge, are CGBP ok instead of tri extensions? I’ve no pulley & skull crushers have a habit of killing my elbows off.

No it’s not. Do pushdowns.

Do you have a band? That’s what I’ve been using for my pushdowns.

No. But I’ll pick some up when I have the cash. In the mean time I’ll do like jim says & do the push downs with a barbell & see if my elbows are ok with that.

barbell only assistance exercises? a blessing. on deadlift day do a whole bunch of front squats. on squat day do a bunch of good mornings. on bench day do lots of presses. on press day do a lot of benching. do a lot of chinups 6 days/week (if you can’t find a chinup apparatus, you’re not looking hard enough). start light. it doesn’t need to be complicated–don’t make it so. The overarching them of 5/3/1 (i only have the original) is that the main lifts are the important part. Put your heart and soul into those and then get the rest of the work done. You can throw in a beachwork day with curls and abs and all that if you want, but i have found that training like an athlete made me look better on the beach than training like a bodybuilder…

Ummm…pushdowns are done with a cable or band.

Hahahahahaha

OP, all of these are done with a barbell. For dips, put 2 chairs of equal height back to back and dip in between them. You could also do dips in the corner of your kitchen, between 2 counters.

I know, I have neither so I’m gonna improvise…somehow.

A micro miniban from elitefts costs around $5 with free shipping right now. If you honestly do not have $5 to spare and live in the US, let me know your address and I will order one for you. Otherwise, don’t improvise just to save $5. Bands are awesome.
