Bailout of Higher Education Costs

So…if we can bail out the banks and financial institutions, how about a little help cutting the costs of higher education ?

The way things are going, I have to get a second job to save for my 9 year olds college education…and I thought I had a pretty substantial amount saved now.

I know there are teachers unions, big money for University Presidents, board members, football teams, etc., but with all this meltdown, how many endowments are going to be lost, how many scholarships will not funded ?

If they want our children to be competitive in the future, and if all these new jobs are going to be in the energy field, don’t you think our children will need the proper education, at a reasonable price, to get the degrees needed to be in these jobs ?

Never happen. More access to cheap money to pay for college raises tuition. All why giving them direct grants.

Students are gettin fucked right along side the tax payer.

Dh…isn’t that amazing. You can make it easier for children to go to college by helping them out with loans, grants, etc. but the end result would be higher tuition costs.

That boggles my mind, but I guess it boils down to simple economics…supply and demand.

I doubt if these higher education institutions are going to price themselves right out of the market, but it is becoming very hard for the average child to attend college. Even state colleges are becoming more expensive in some areas ( I live in TAX Jersey ( not New Jersey)) so I may be forced to move at some point.

And it’s inversely proportional to the quality of education. Cheap money means more students, which results in less qualified students, which causes the average intelligence of the student body to drop, which results in a dumbing down of the material to prevent mass drop outs.

Universities get drunk on all of the extra funds just like politicians. Most cannot afford to let high percentages of students drop out.

Already too many kids going to college.

The fed shouldn’t give loans at all. Take all the money given to the universities in grants and give that to the best qualified students as a grant. Make colleges compete for students instead of gov’t grants. Make students compete for grants. If they want loans, the free market can provide them.

The grants have become the cash cow for many universities. Students should be the focus.

I agree to a point. There are way too many kids trying to get into colleges they probably don’t need to be going to.

Everyone is training to be the boss without knowing how to work.

So the dumb kid who has rich parents can get in while the smart child, who’s parents cannot afford it, has to hope for a scholarship.

I agree…there should be more competition for children to get grants. I am just so pissed that a kid who can throw a ball and cant spell, can get in to a college, make tons of money, and the smart child ( who apparently will be getting one of those new ‘energy jobs’ in the future), will have to struggle to get in. I don’t think most want to be the boss, but they don’t want to shovel shit either.

I think the ENTIRE entertainment industry ( sports, movies, TV) is so overpaid it’s sad. I realize that sports bring in big money to schools, but how much does the student body tuition bring in ? Is it only 10 percent…15 percent ? I have no idea but if some one knows please tell me.

Spoken like a true liberal. This is exactly what’s wrong with this country. Always worried about how well someone else is doing. Who are you or anyone else to decide what talents or services are worth more than others? Some guys get paid a lot of money to get blow jobs and screw just because they have a shapely penis. What’s your point? If there were no value in what they are doing they wouldn’t be getting paid. Only when gov’t steps in to tell us what is important and who gets an advantage, is there any immorality involved. Quit worrying about what other people are doing or not doing. It’s none of your business. Don’t participate if you don’t like it.

Hey Dickey…spoken like a true DICKHEAD.

First off, my post was in reference to the bail out of wall street and why isn’t there more work done on higher education.

I don’t give a fuck what other people do, all I stated was I think there is a disparity in sports in college versus education. It’s my opinion, but to state that that makes me a liberal is absurd. You may think that is a liberal statement…I’ll give you that one. BUT… you don’t know 2 shits about me pal, so shut the fuck up about what you think I am.

When I get priced out on tickets to a game and $8 beers while the jackass playing the game for 30 million a year can’t make a foul shot, hell yeah I think they are over paid.

And you can watch all the porn you want with those guys with shapely penises…knock yourself out.

Well, I am definatly a dickhead but didn’t think it came out in my post.

sorry you just sounded like a whiney bitch and got off on some tangent about hating jocks. Did you get picked on by the jocks? Maybe a swirly or two? Who gives a shit if someone gets a scholarship for playing sports? Who’s to say that’s more or less valuable than someone that is smart? I tell you who. The school and the athelete. Not you. Maybe you need a lesson in economic or supply and demand? Which do you think is more common, a 4.0 gpa or a 90mph fast ball?

Don’t tell me what to do. It just makes you sound like an angry bossy liberal.

then don’t go to game. nobody cares what you think about anybody’s pay scale.

I’m actually not much of a porn guy so I don’t many shapely peni outside the shower. Just one in there if you wondering.

Dh…I apologize.

I just get a little pissed when one of my rambling posts gets taken a bit out of context and I get branded as a liberal ! My bad. I am more a tad right of center, but I do side on the more liberal views when it comes to funding programs for children.

I just get mad when I see the disparity between sports and education, especially in the higher institutions. I am concerned about rising education costs, where to me it seems there is no end in site. I wanted to post something to try to corrolate this wall street bail out where it helps these investment banks and highly paid executives, and trying to lower education costs by the govt. helping in a similar way. Not sure if I framed it correctly.

Never tried to tell you or any one else what to do and you are correct…don’t go to the game. But, with these other circumstances in the market, where these guys are getting paid BIG bucks when their companies are going bankrupt, it does not bolster the argument of getting paid for what you are worth or what people will pay. Just an analogy…possibly a poor one.

And sorry for the dickhead remark…but, you did leave yourself open for the porn/penis one. However tacky it may have been on my part, I couldn’t pass it up !!
You don’t have to apologize. We’re all big girls and boys here. insults are hurled quite frequently and rarely is it personal. This an anonymous forum so this should be expected. The childish get to pretend to adults, and adults get to be childish on occassion.
Again, you shouldn’t be mad. Everyone has thier own moral compass. Some people value intellect, some looks, some athletic performance. None are more or less moral. Different strokes for different folks.

yep, a poor one. it is also no ones business what CEOs get paid and how they do. Two exception to this. If you are a share holder or you are bailing the company out. If the former, you should be pissed at those that are taking your money and givig it to these guys. Not the CEOs. It’s quite legal to fail…for now.

I don’t know about that one considering we bailed out these guys. Anyone that has a federal tax deduction taken out of their check should be apprised as to what these guys make…it IS my business at this stage of the game for these jokers. At least it gives me the opportunity to yell “WHAT THE FUCK !!”

I do not agree that it is ok to fail at this point. Maybe these guys do not have any moral compass.
