Stone over bar
60" height
240 lb stone
2 sets of 10
1 set of 20
Made an improvised stone sleeve and used a little tacky. I saw the Brian Shaw stone sleeve and thought $140 was a bit much. I bought a couple of $5 leather archery forearm guards and secured them in place with a bit of tape. Seemed to hold tacky better than tape on its own.

4 rounds of:
While wearing 50 lb vest
Chinsx8
Dipsx8
GHR back raisex8
Ab wheelx8
Belt squat (3pps) x8

3 rounds of
Band rowx20
Tricep extensions x20
KB curls (30 lbs) x10

Also attached video for critique. If I was going to record, I should have actually tried to move the stone quickly.

For stones. definitely try not bending the arms so much on the pick. Also try stiff legging it off the floor as opposed to dropping your hips so low.

Biggest pointer is for you to reach over the top of the stone before going to extension into the load. Do not go south of the equator of the stone with your arms. That’s a very inefficient load.

So after lapping the stone, reach over the top and pull the stone into me while extending to load, rather than cradling it like it looks like I currently am?

Yes.

How would I incorporate that into a one motion load?

That’d be an exception. If you’re going to one motion a stone, you should have confidence that the height you’re loading to won’t be a problem at all.

One thing a lot of great stone loaders do, is utilize full triple extension. I would definitely practice that on stones. It’s actually why so many guys fail stone loads at 2 inch higher heights than they’re used to, simply because they can’t complete extension.

This is imo one of the most efficient stone loaders of all time. (I also think he’s the best strongman ever skill wise)

Notice the load at like 15 seconds. Of course the others too, but if you pause there, you can really see how far it can take you when your extension is complete. (he’s only 5’8")

Upcoming contest has a 150 lb stone for rep over 50" bar. It sounds like it’ll be all about speed and one-motioning each load (or the event promoter only has 3 weights of stones). For that light should I just grab low, extend, and push over?

Are you competing in womens novice wtf?! 150lb stone?? Just fucking fling it over the bar a thousand times.

Seriously though, just one motion every rep with a low grab. There should be no reason why you can’t one motion a 150lb stone for the entire duration.

Post-script seriously, why the fuck is there a 150lb stone in a mens division? I wouldn’t use a 150lb stone for mens novice. Link the contest, I’m infuriated. I have to make note of the promoter.

Contest is 2018 Arizona Beer Bullies. Google may bring it up

Its the men’s lightweight open. Lightweight men is 150, middleweight men 250, heavyweight men 300.

Yeah its pretty silly light. I was surprised. Current PR is 17 in a minute while retrieving the stone myself. I think 20+ will be possible if I can find a good flow and the stone gets back to me quickly.

That’s ridiculous. They seriously can’t make another stone by contest day? I’d bulk the fuck up to middleweight tbh.

150lb stone lol…might as well try to bounce the fucking stone over the bar at that rate.

I’m sure throwing it will be in the cards. I’d consider middleweight if my log was better. Other than the stone, the other weights are a bit more reasonable.

Back to jiu jitsu this evening. It’s been quite a while since I rolled. Only real muscle memory is denying chokes :joy: wrestling brain kicked in hard and I was dealing with some major internal conflict over letting my shoulders touch mat.

Still try get hands over the stone, watch Wenta on the left:

Too risky for the biceps otherwise, even one motioning.

Also, if you can pop it off your chest you can get some time.
