Assisted Pull-Ups

I keep hearing that they are not a good exercise…why? I personally do lots of them, increasing the assistance as the set progresses.
Thanks.

What kind of assistance?

What’s the goal?

Assisted pull-ups are great for people who can’t do pull-ups yet. Some smart guys who CAN do plenty of pull-ups use assistance anyway (Jumpstretch bands) sometimes to do ultra-high reps for variety in training.

Ditto to what Ross said.

(If you are talking about machine assisted pull ups,) The argument against machine assisted pull ups is that it puts your body in an unnatural biomechanical groove. It does not effectively train you to do a real pull up, which should be your goal if you can’t do any.
