Ascending on the Box Squat

My main squat movement on 5/3/1 is the box squat. I personally like it compared to the free squat because I can maintain better form. I still do free squats but only as an accessory movement for the simplest strength template. However there’s one thing I’m not sure of. When coming up from the box squat are you supposed to raise your butt off the box first before the knees?

Bump?

How do you raise your knees during a squat? That would be a cool trick.

How tall are you?
How high is the box you are using?
How wide is your stance when you box squat?
Where do you carry the bar on your back?

Lol, I meant extending the knees. You know what I meant :stuck_out_tongue:

-5’9"
-14 inches
-As wide as a sumo deadlift, so about double shoulder width
-It rests on the upper traps and posterior delts.

I’m gonna try to get a video uploaded, I’m just having a difficult time getting the right angle and setting up the camera properly. I workout alone in my home gym.

With a proper box squat, where you sit back on the box, what takes your hips off the box is spreading the ground with your feet and the shift back to “forward”. Otherwise, I wouldn’t really think about it too much. Just extend your hips and knees at the same rate.
