Anyone Else Excited For the Olympics?

Anyone else really psyched about the olympics this summer? You guys think that H. Reza is going to beat both his records?

who knows. I’d love to see him do it, but I’m not sure. He is nearing the end of his career ya know. I’m more excited to see Taner, Dolega, and whoever Russian sends from the 105kg class, and I’m hoping to see Misha at the Olympics.

It’d be great too see, if he ever does it again it will be now…this is likely his last Olympics.

Kind of sucks there won’t be a Greek team though.

What? Explain?

I assume he means Koklaev, in which case I’d say not very likely.

Can’t wait to see how Ukraine does in the Olympics this year. I am alone on this one, but oh well.

I’m pretty excited. I wasn’t really that interested/informed about weightlifting for the last Olympics. I’m still pretty new to the sport but I’m looking forward to learning a bit more this summer.

I’m pretty pumped to see Szymon Kolecki of the 94’s and Matthias Steiner in the 105+, could give the Iranian a run for his money. Don’t forget about Mtulu going for his 4th straight gold

one can hope!

The Chinese are going to dominate the Olympics in lifting this year IMO.

Other then dominating lower weight classes they might steal the 105+kg also

Scroll to the bottom looks like they might have a secret weapon.

  • Zhang Jie - 326@62 at the 2008 Asian Championships
  • Liao Hui - 355@69 at the China olympic trials
  • Lu Yong - 393@85 at the China olympic trials

just to show you what a few of them did in trials, now think of what they will do with all the adrenaline of competing at the Olympics in their home country.

My dads side of the family is Ukrainian, my moms is Dutch. Every Olympics theres a huge feud while I just support both.

So, you’re not alone.

85s will be very tight. Lu Yong’s total is exactly the same as Rybakou’s at the last World Champs.

Is Dolega going??? I can’t wait to see if he breaks the snatch WR after his less than great peformance at the world champs last year. I remember seeing his 201(?) snatch vid in training on youtube and thinking damn… I’ll have to tune in to watch him break the WR. And then he bombed :frowning:

Hopefully we’ll have better coverage and announcers in the US this time around. Last Olympics it was almost painful to watch and listen to because the announcers obviously knew nothing about weightlifting.

Great link!

Check out the “Weightlifting & Drugs” one about Ivan Ivanov being stripped of his medal. They know their stuff.

haha this was the best commentary I’ve heard

Anyone know when they will be showing the weightlifting portion, or what channel will actually be smart enough to feature this portion of the Olympics?
