AM:

15 mile bike ride
(easy ride through a paved trial)

PM:

100 Ab wheel roll outs
200 curls
300 push ups
(was too hot to workout in the garage, so grabbed some DBs and the wheel and did these in the nice AC)

Good ol’ Operator:

2 miles on Airdyne
3x5 BSQ @ 235 lbs
5x5 OHP @ 115 lbs
5x5 WPUs @ BW+50 lbs

Notes: Planning on soccer at lunchtime, so kept the BSQ portion fairly tame. Haven’t run one of these sessions in several months, and it felt good.

Operator (now calling this 2/9 for Max Strength days. Meaning I’ll get in 9 strength sessions over a 3 week block)

BSQ: 235 lbs; 4x5.
OHP: 115 lbs; 5x5
WPU’s: BW+50 lbs on rings; 5x5

Notes: Making a bit of a shift to refocus on maximum strength. Also, with school starting up and other activities (soccer, mountain biking) picking back up, I need the scalability of this where I can choose anywhere from 3-10 sets based on what else is going on. I’ll plan running this three week wave and reassess from there.

3x12 plate raises (45 lb plate)
3x12 rear delt raises (35 lb DBs)
3x25 band pull aparts (plus an extra 25 to get to 100)

9/10/2021

AM track work

11 rounds:
100 yard sprint
20 push ups

Then:
100 bicycles
80 push ups (to get to 300 push ups)

Notes: First track work out in a long time. Get up and did it before the HS opened. Never thought I’d be cranking out sprints in the early morning hours.

2 miles Airdyne
BSQ: 235 lbs; 1x5
OHP: 115; 5x5
WPUs: BW+50 lbs on rings; 5x5
DL: 305 lbs; 1x5

Notes: Gonna get a lot of biking miles in today, so didn’t want to do more than work up to a single working set on BSQ. Also, first DL in some time, so kept it within reason. Felt really good and easy. I’m sore from those sprints yesterday! But gotta get ready to play soccer again so need to work on my speed and conditioning.

9/11 and 9/12/2021

9/11:

A couple of long bike rides totaling about 20 miles. More leisurely paced around town and light trails. Even hit a coffee shop earlier on, and a couple of pubs later.

9/12:

10 mile mountain bike ride. Lots of fun on the trails!

Notes: While structured workouts are great and necessary to achieve a high level of strength and fitness, these types of activities really remind me of what it’s all about and what the effort is for. I work out so I can do things like this, not so I can I can do more and more KB swings or the like.

Wearing a 30# weight vest:

2 miles on Airdyne
100 inverted ring rows
200 push ups
300 squats
2 miles on Airdyne

Time ~42 minutes

Notes: I love this as a “can’t decide what to do today” workout. If I’m following TB, this would be a conditioning day, but I’ve been getting so much outside activities in lately that I wanted to have some strength/rep component to today’s training. Now that I’m calibrated, I think a 45 minute cap is a good one for this workout, keeping me moving at a good clip but not racing through it. I set it up this way to make it mentally easier:

20 push ups
10 rows (or pull ups)
30 squats
20 push ups
10 rows (or pull ups)
30 squats
(Water break, short breather. That’s one round. Do it 5 times total)

25 KB swings, 2 miles on Airdyne

Notes: Gonna play soccer at lunch, so nothing too crazy this morning but did get in all the sets. Classes start up next week and soccer comes back Tues/Thurs, so I’m beginning to think of the approach to fitting training into my schedule. Might even try Zulu from TB to make it work, with more upper-focused T/R work and more lower-focused M/F.

Notes: 3 on 3 on astroturf. Gonna feel this tomorrow. That said, it’s been awesome to get back into “real” activities again and get work in that way. This was just pick up, but I have an actual game on Sunday.

Then a 1 hour mountain biking ride

Notes: Even though I’m only 6/9 on my workouts for Operator, gonna have to change things up starting next week. My workout schedule and timing will change now that I’ll be back on campus full time and the gym is open. I’ll post my new routine tomorrow.
