I’ve started to discover recently that most of the prescription antacids on the market are androgen antagonists and estrogen agonists. People on esomeprazole (Nexium) are reporting low libido and reduced motivation and drive. Tagamet, which I don’t see much anymore was a known androgen antagonist and estrogen elevator. I just read something about ranitidine (zantac) also having a negative effect on the ratio of testosterone and estrogen. As men- especially those who are athletes, or want a sex drive, we should cure our GERD the long and complicated way using altered dietary habits and not drugs. If drugs are a medical necessity, at least keep the duration of the therapy to a minimum.
I have been warning about http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cimetidine for years.
