Ammonia Caps

What does everyone think about Ammonia Caps???

This will be good…

i’ve got one stuck in each nostril right now. no other way to start the day

Depends on the weather. Winter time I prefer some sort of fleece-based beanie, whereas in the summer I like a partially mesh-based baseball cap. Never worn an ammonia cap, but I suspect it’d smell like piss, in which case just nick one off a tramp.

Hahahahaha!
Classic!

I woke my old lady up with one one time. No good reason, really- I just thought it would be a funny thing to do- which it was.

Seriously, I put ammonnia, cheque drops, and blaring christ-raping black metal all in same basket of “things that may tend to make you emotionally invest in making the lift”. That said, I’ve hit most of my PRs WITHOUT these things and I’ve missed a lot of lifts WITH these things.

I don’t like ammonia much for bench attempts or squat attempts as much as I like it for DL attempts. The first two lifts are more techanical and spazing out on them has typically not worked well for me. Pulling, for me, however is an act of primal aggression and I like ammonia for deadlifting.

I’ve seen a good number of OL lifters use ammonia, helps them a bit, but I can see it making you to hyped up for the O-lifts. Then again, I’ve never tried ammonia caps so I can’t say. I’m sure one day I will.

That’s pretty much a perfect synopsis.

I’ll never forget being at Master’s Nationals with a friend of mine. He was going after a bench record that day and pulled some ammonia on his opener (which was not even a remotely difficult lift for him.) I was wondering what the hell was going on as I have never seen him do this before. He was all spazzed out, popped it out of the bubble on his chest, the lift looked rough but passed.

Goes out for his second, hits the ammonia, pulls a Tazmanian devil heading out to the platform and proceeds to almost decapitate himself.

After he peeled himself off the platform I told him to just sit down and shut the fuck up. Didn’t even speak to him. Then I made him stand there for 10 seconds after they called bars loaded, calm down and get his shit together. Went out there and killed the attempt.

Bottom line, I don’t use the stuff except maybe for a 2nd or 3rd pull. On the other hand, my wife pretty much uses it for all her 3rd’s.

I guess it’s a preference thing.
