American's Selfish Nature Towards Other Americans

This country has to have some of the most heartless and shallow people in the world.

The government can spend 600 billion a year on military, 50 billion a year on the war on drugs, 35 billion a year on FOREIGN AID… Read that again you nitwits, FOREIGN AID…but as soon as money is spent for domestic programs, for AMERICANS, for your NEIGHBORS, suddenly it’s the most horrific and unjust use of tax payer’s money ever.

For a country that overwhelmingly considers itself ‘christian’, I rarely see people share the same compassion or giving nature for people their supposed savior did and encouraged.

Assholes.

Now start ranting and raving about how you don’t want your money to go to ‘deadbeats’ and ‘lazy bums’ while the government ships off billions of tax payer’s dollars to foreign nations that you could give a fuck less about.

Hulk;

This is hard to argue…but believe me, somebody will!

I oppose “domestic aid” exactly because I am compassionate.

Edit: To be clear, I oppose foreign welfa…aid, the war on drugs, etc.

Isn’t it the government’s job to be charitable? Why would you expect Americans to worry about it when government is obviously taking care of it?

I share your frustration…“good luck” getting a valid argument from the bullshit that will follow…

I think a lot of people who are against foreign aid are going to also be against domestic programs.

Plus look at the money spent on foreign aid compared to domestic programs.

$500 billion on welfare.

You’re an idiot. Christianity has nothing to do with the government taking people’s money in the form of taxes and giving it to people. Christianity promotes the voluntary helping of one’s neighbor.

If I teach a friend who’s in poor financial shape good money management skills that isn’t enough help? I need to give him money?

How old are you?

You sound like a college kid looking for government to create a utopia for everyone. Why can’t people just worry about creating their own utopian lifestyle as long as they don’t suppress others’ rights so they have the same chance? We can’t keep all of our compensation for our productivity because others “need” it.

Remember… NO ONE in the country will go hungry or homeless if they just didn’t make a shit load of really bad decisions. We need to compensate people because they make poor decisions? Get real.

Mufasa this lack of accountability on American’s part is exactly why we are in the situation we are in now. Why learn a trade and good money management if you don’t need to try and still get by.

I just pulled out my check stub, just for shits-and-giggles…

As you would expect, the largest “chunk” taken out is for Federal Income Tax and Social Security Tax.

SS is a separate “gorilla in the room”, that is a thread by itself. And since it is dealt with a little differently when considering the Federal Budget, expenditures, etc. I’ll set that one aside.

Of the Federal Income Tax, the VAST majority of those funds go to military spending AND PAYING THE INTEREST ON THE HOLDERS OF OUR NATIONAL DEBT. (Mostly incurred by military spending).

That interest alone is approaching 600 Billion Dollars and rising.

With the exceptions of wanting to pay our Military Personnel MUCH more than we do; and eliminating AWFUL waste, (which could be used to pay them more); I have no problem with military spending.

The reality is, you are not spending much as it is on your " Deadbeat Neighbor/Welfare Mom/Baby Daddy", folks.

Yet “welfare mothers” and “Baby Daddy” spending is often used to indicate waste of your Dollars.

By the way, I think lastest estimates have China and Saudi Arabia holding most of our debt.

THAT should scare you and anger you more than the fraction of a cent your Federal Income Tax goes to some single mom receiving aide.

For a country that overwhelmingly considers itself ‘free’, I rarely see people share the same sense of individual liberty, and individual responsibility, their supposed Founding Fathers encouraged.

Socialist, Big government, Assholes.

Now start ranting and raving about how you want other people’s money to forcibly be redistributed to other people, while the government ships off billions of tax payer’s dollars to foreign nations that you could give a fuck less about.[/quote]

Fixed!

I’m sorry, how can you set aside SS? SS and Medicare/aid alone are set to bankrupt us.

But what are we spending on that put us in debt in the first case?

What spending do we cut to pay off our debt? Or do we raise taxes?

When you give money to foreign countries it’s democracy in action.

When you give money to domestic programs it’s socialism…

I’d say, bring the troops home from around the world and scale our military back to where it can defend us and our borders. No, not Europe, Kuwait, Darfur, etc. Oh, and no foreign aid.

Set a date for dumping every entitlement program the US government currently runs. Let people know the gravy train is running out of rail, and it’s time to make plans for their own departure.

Cutting business taxes to point where the only concern about outsourcing, is that so many people, multitudes even, are scrambling to create businesses and jobs in this country. We should be the King of Inscourcing!

Pay down what we owe.

Return the money to the people.

No, when you give other people’s money, collected through force, to either form of “aid,” it’s socialism.

I set it aside FOR THIS DISCUSSION AND THREAD.

You are right; SS scares the crap out of Politicians (how often have you heard it discussed during this campaign?)…and should scare all of us…

It will make the Mortgage debacle look small in comparison.

Yet we rant, rave, spit and argue about the small amount of aide we give to our fellow Americans.

We should rant and rave about both. I know I’m fully capable of doing so. Are others truly so limited?

SS seems like the easiest and most ethical fix of all. I think politicians are just scared of losing votes of anyone over 35 years of age.

Pick an age and grandfather those older into the system. Take the money people paid into the system who are younger and refund them that money to put towards their own retirement. It will be the biggest influx of investment into the private sector this economy would ever see. Imagine that much money going towards the investment of alternative energy sources/ domestic natural resource extraction.

EDIT: If you want your money refunded in entirety at an older age you can also petition for it. IMO you see pennies on the dollar that you spend on social security.

I do not have a problem with helping other people if you choose to do so. I have a problem with the government forcing my money from me to give it to those who they think deserve it.

  1. It does not belong to them. It is mine. I decide how it should be spent.

  2. Not everyone deserves it.

The Priorities (As I see them):

  1. Deal with SS NOW!

  2. Cut Military WASTE and pass much of those savings on to our amazing people in uniform. The rest should be applied to reducing the the overall Debt.

  3. Cut wasteful programs and departments and/or selectively freeze their spending where feasible.

  4. Begin to selectively reduce domestic programs and/or wasteful spending.

The problem is that all this is easier said than done.

This ain’t your family budget, folks.

Agree:

I don’t want my money going to the Chinese and Saudi Governments.
