Alternative to Suspended Push-Ups?

I’m on a very tight budget for the new few months, so I can’t afford to buy chains and/or blast straps to do suspended push-ups.

Anyone have a good alternative to this exercise? And, if anyone has a cheap alternative to making blast straps (looking to spend no more than 20), I’m interested in hearing about it.

Thanks,
Dan

Got a swiss ball? Do some pushups with your hands on the ball. Elevate feet to increase difficulty.

Buy a couple basketballs, do pushups on them.

I don’t remember how exactly to do this myself since I have a set of power rings, but I remember that there was a way to construct your own by using PVC pipe and some rope. I know we all hate Crossfit here, but you could look on their equipment board for suggestions.

A simple length of rope could also work, though it might pinch your hands a bit.

As a refinement of the above, you could take a length of rope and loop it through a 4-6" length of PVC or metal piping (depending on how big your hands are). Wrap some duct tape around it for grip. Without some other tricks, you may not be able to adjust the height easily, but hey, it’s a start.

Aha, here’s the link:

You could use towels or chains or swings from a swing set, or even JS bands.

Have fun

get some chain that will hold around 350 lbs at home depot. Get 15 ft. each, or however much you need. 2 15 ft lengths should be less than 20 bucks. Then get 2 1 1/4" (or whatever) pvc elbows. Those elbows are like half circles, and work well in place of rings.

Thats what I did, and I am still using them. They work great. Just get some strong screw on carabiner things.

Get some rope

then if you will be doing them in the gym just attach some cable stirrups

or go to a hardwear store and get some small metalic cylinders. put the rope through the cylinder and tie the rope back on itself so that you have made your own handle that you can grab…

If You use rope or cheap cain you can have the fixed length but use them on a Smith Machine. Use the machine as an adjustable height bar. (second good use for a Smith machie; first is as a coat rack.)

like already stated… get a couple of basketballs do your pushups on those.

since you said you can’t buy chains/blast straps.

Thanks for the ideas, guys. I’ll let you know what I decide to go with.

Check out Home Depot or the like, get some adjustable cargo straps. These can usually be had pretty cheap. Then go to the playground area of Home Depot, and get a set of gymnast rings for a swingset, also usually pretty cheap. Wrap with tape if preferred.

Home Depot is right down the street from my house. Perhaps I’ll do some browsing today on my way home, see how much everything will cost.
