Old Guy Strength

6/26/15

Deadlift:
225 x 5, 225 x 3, 275 x 1, 415 x 2, 455 x 1, 525 x 1, 475 x 1, 455 x 2

Laying Leg Curls:
4 sets x 10 reps x 130

I have not been able to lift in a few days, due to work and being ill. When I arrived today a guy was deadlifting, and had 225 on the bar. When he was done, I told him to leave it on. I was too lazy to strip the bar, so I started a little heavier than normal.

Maybe you’re on to something there? Looks like it didn’t affect your training at all.

6/29/15

Bench:
135 x 10, 185 x 5, 225 x 3, 245 x 1, 275 x 1, 310 x 2, 330 x 1, 380 x 2, 330 x 3

Bench With Band:
285 x 4

Incline Flies:
4 sets x 15 reps x 50

Svend Press:
3 sets x 50 reps x 3 plates
1 set x 50 reps x 4 plates

This morning was good. The second rep of 380 was better than the first. I might have had a third in me, but it would have been a real struggle.

Strong bench work Crippler.

Sick benching! I’d be happy if I could do 380 X 1 never mind doing 2 with a third in the tank! Well done crip!

Thanks gents. The funny thing was the first rep was harder than the second. Which leads me to think I might have been able to struggle with a third.

6/30/15

Leg Extensions:
4 sets x 12 reps x 225

Leg Press:
450 x 10
540 x 10
630 x 10
810 x 10
900 x 10
1000 x 10

I never like being “leg press guy,” but I had no choice today. The rack was being used up when I got there. I thought I would do some leg extensions, and then squats. Surely the rack would be empty by then. Nope, another guy jumped on. When I got about three sets deep on leg presses, he asked it I wanted the rack. I had already committed myself at that point. I had no plan for sets. I just started throwing plates on.

I’ve been worried about overtraining for deadlifts anyway, so perhaps today was a good thing. My quads got a pretty good workout, and I saved the rest of my body.

Strong work going on in here. How old are you, if you don’t mind me asking

Thank you. I’m 44.

7/1/15

Underhand Lat Pulls:
4 sets x 10 reps x 100

Face Pulls:

Going in a little later means someone is hogging the rack when I get there. Hence I started with curls, which is opposite of my normal day.

Damn those rack hoggers! Hey, I’ll be 45 in less than a month. You know what that means…I got to eat more steak and lift heavier.

Steak = Muscle

7/4/15

Bench:
135 x 10, 185 x 5, 225 x 3, 245 x 1, 275 x 1

Super Katana Shirt:
385 x 1
405 x 1
455 x 1

I’m staying with the idea of a high volume raw day and a low volume shirt day. Today was good. Each heavy set was about one half inch from touching my chest. They were all clean. I kick myself now, because I gave up on it too soon at 455. I had my son and two other guys spotting and they gave good lift offs, and knew better than to take it from me.

7/5/15

Deadlift:
135 x 10, 185 x 5, 225 x 3, 275 x 1, 315 x 1, 425 x 1, 455 x 1, 525 x 1, 485 x 1, 465 x 2, 405 x 3

Laying Leg Curls:
4 sets x 10 reps x 130

I was not as strong today as I wanted, but I’ll take it.

7/10/15

Bench:
135 x 10, 185 x 5, 225 x 3, 245 x 1, 275 x 1, 315 x 1, 335 x 1, 385 x 2, 335 x 2

Bench Against Band:
290 x 3

Fly Machine:
4 sets x 12 reps x 160

Superset:
Svend Press- 4 sets x 50 reps x 3 plates
Bench Flies - 4 sets x 50 reps

Work has been a nightmare this week, so today was my only chance to get in so far. Bench was good and strong. I’m trying to peak at just the right time, with six weeks to do. 385 x 2 was the most I’ve done (for two reps) raw since college I think. It was a little rough, as my ass came off the bench on both reps, but I nailed it.

Great benching, it’s nice to have the strength of younger days and better. Dead strength will keep on rising, nice work.

Thanks. For the first time in a long time I have more confidence in my bench.

7/12/15

Close Grip Bench:
135 x 10. 185 x 10, 225 x 10, 245 x 10, 265 x 10

One Arm Extensions:
2 sets x 10 reps x 35
1 set x 10 reps x 40
1 set x 10 reps x 45

Rope Pull Down:
4 sets x 20 reps x 100

Kickbacks:
4 sets x 10 reps x 40

Poundstone Curls:
50
35

Rope Curls:
4 sets x 10 reps x 65

I know a lot of people here CG a lot of weight. 265 was the most I’ve done in a long time. Normally I don’t go any higher than 245. I felt good today, so I added a little more.

7/13/15

Deadlift:
135 x 10, 185 x 5, 225 x 3, 275 x 1, 315 x 1, 455 x 1, 505 x 1, 525 x 1, 485 x 1, 465 x 1, 405 x 3

Laying Leg Curls:
4 sets x 10 reps x 135

I’m trying to dial in my first and second lifts at this point. I think last time I opened at 475. That might be the opener again. 510 or 515 might be the second lift.

Nice dead work.

Strong.

Thanks guys. We’ll see, I’m think it might be getting there.

7/15/15

Overhead Press:
45 x 10, 65 x 10, 95 x 5, 145 x 3, 175 x 3, 195 x 3

BB Shrugs:
2 sets x 10 reps x 405
2 sets x 5 reps x 515

Underhand Lat Pulls:
4 sets x 10 reps x 100

Seated Pulls:
4 sets x 10 reps x 200

Face Pulls:
4 sets x 12 reps x 95

Yesterday the whole family took my son to tour one of the colleges he is considering next year. We visited the student union building, which contained the weight room. My mouth began to water. In my day the student weight room was in a corner, and was very told school. This was really nice, and better than 95% of the gyms you can join around the country. I wish I was young again…

7/18/15

Bench:
135 x 10, 185 x 5, 225 x 3, 245 x 1, 275 x 1

Shirt:
315 x 4
385 x 1
405 x 1
455 x 1
405 x 1
385 x 2

My idea of one raw workout, followed by a geared workout is working great. Today was my best shirt workout this cycle. I was able to touch at 385 and 405, and both were light and easy. I was one inch from touching at 455, but it was strong.

Another great day for you and you have more success to come I’m sure.
