T Nation

All Is Good Except Morning Wood

After wrestling with TRT for about 2 1/2 years, I finally dialed in the numbers to the best of my ability considering budget, etc.

After front-loading with 100mg of Test Cypionate, I began to take 20mg every day, subcutaneous. Feel a bit like a pin cushion and go thru a lot of syringes, but it’s worth it. Also take 2.5 mg of RC Aromasin every day.

Total T: 738 ng/dl (range 348-1197)
Free T: 18.5 pg/ml (6.8-21.5)
E2: 20.3 (7.6-42.6)
SHBG: 15.7 (16.5-55.9)

SHBG is a bit low, doing what I can to address that thru diet, etc. I found that I felt bad with high E2, of course, but also felt bad with E2 of 15 and Free T too high.

I feel good, not superhuman, but stable. I’m stronger at age 40 than I’ve ever been.

The one thing I haven’t yet been able to do is regain morning erections. At best, I might wake up with one that is 50% or so, and I can’t even count on that every morning.

That is despite taking 150mg of generic Viagra every night before bed, along with just about every circulation-related supplement that has any merit (pycnogenol, L-arginine, and several more).

I was probably low on T for 3-4 years before being diagnosed, and during that time morning erections gradually diminished then disappeared. I’m quite sure that penile tissue changed for the worse during that time. I feel like that’s been reversed to some degree, not 100%.

Any ideas?

Lots of variables involved with wood, honestly. Have you tried the daily low dose cialis? That might be more effective than the V. You seem to have everything dialed in pretty well. Are you using any hcg?

Thanks, catfish.

I’m not using HCG due to its cost; also, my doc is not too informed on it (but I think he’s still the best option I have locally).

I have tried low dose Cialis (generic) for several weeks, didn’t notice any improvement, and eventually had some of the back pain/myalgia side effects.

My experience has been that if Cialis doesn’t give MW then something else is off. When all my levels are dialed in, it works like a charm. 738 can be a bit low for some guys. Maybe if you hit 1000 or so you’ll feel better? I know I did…

Also, you don’t have to pin daily. Most of us are doing twice weekly injections, some are EOD or E3D. The benefit to daily injections is likely marginal based on the hassle IMO. If the cialis isn’t working, then something else sure looks to be amiss, although I don’t know what it could be. Is your libido OK otherwise, just not in the mornings? Mine is VERY dependent on E2 levels, a bit off in either direction and mine goes. It always comes back though when I’m dialed in.

+1 to what catfish said… Some guys, me included, need a very narrow range of E2

Thanks, all.

I have run total T up near 1000 in the past, which put my free T well above range; this seems to cause all-day ED/libido problems (even when E2 is kept in check).

I don’t enjoy pinning every day, but I’ve tried 1x/week, 2x/week, E3D and E2D. None of them kept all my numbers (including free T) in range.

Libido is pretty good. Lack of morning wood is my main concern, since, as I understand it, this is the natural nightly maintenance program for your johnson.

One possibility: The cialis I used for a while was RC liquid. Perhaps generic tablets would be better.

Lots of posts about daily Cialis recently. I’ve been wondering how folks are able to afford it (it’s massively expensive for me even with ins. coverage). But here I see you mention a generic version, I suppose just labelled Tadalafil?
Please do tell. Much appreciated.

Yes, search “research chemical tadalafil” and you’ll get some sources.

Effectiveness is hard to gauge.

There are also online sources of generic tablets from overseas.

Walgreens has a discount card for $20 that lowers the cost of a month supply to around $180. – you can use a health savings account to save the month for it each year, and once you take it for 90 days straight you can cut use to use Fridays or whenever you want. No need to take it daily forever for most guys. I’ve had a 30 day supply last me several months.
