In addition to that small incident, it also happened in a really horrible context. I went with some family members to see “friends of our family”, one of which is dying due to brain cancer (probably within a few weeks). If there was ever a situation to “bite ones tongue” and also not get “physically aggressive” etc, this would be it.

I can’t even imagine “making a scene” in that scenario. Disgraceful.

yea it’s crazy. some people just can’t relax, always on edge, hold grudges forever, can’t let things slide, always have to be “tough” (when really it’s weakness) etc.

when people start bothering me, I usually just ignore them, or respond less. I try to avoid conflict. It usually works pretty good, because any “jab” from someone who wants conflict, just misses the target, there’s no response. Works pretty good in my experience.

I remember you writing something similar. You cut people off completely when they cross the line. I do so as well. Once someone crosses a major line with me, I try to avoid them or in situations where it’s impossible to avoid them, just not interact with them, and don’t “bite” on any of their garbage.

Yeah man, didn’t rise to that level, but honestly - it probably could have if no one was around. Weird & sad shit.

Yup!

peace folks!

light run.

got to 3000 miles for 2018.

#1063

two light runs mixed with speed.

12/26/2018

<= 4:59 mile vs <= 2:59 km:

  • 12 (sub5) + 15 (sub3) = 27 of 50, 23 to go!

top3 finishes:
2018: 29/44 (stay healthy!)
2017: 6/12
2016: 4/10
2015: 0/2
2006: 0/1

diet:

  • diet was light but good.

09:30 AM: light with mod/hard speed: 53 min w/ {1050m @ 3:12 (4:59), 1km split=3:05 (4:57), tail wind) ::: (grass/concrete, lots of wind, hamstrings still wrecked)

08:00 AM: light w/ mod speed: 1h38m30s w/ 2 efforts in the middle: {1160m @ 3:46 (5:15 min/mi), 1km split = 3:14} + {0.26 mi @ 1:17 / 4:59 min/mi} ::: (grass/turf/concrete/road, CRAZY WINDY AF)

#1064

You’ve got a busy schedule the next couple of days :slight_smile:

Ready for that new years day gig :slight_smile: starting the year with a blast.

#1065

ya lol. can’t wait until 2018 is over so I can happily accept that failure :smiley:

yea kinda. i’m not going there the day prior. instead, if I feel good (no injuries etc), i’m going to drive up morning of… 4.5 hour drive apparently. I’m actually not worried about that though tbh. I did that when driving to the Duval Street Mile (3.5 hour drive). Then had only 2 hours to relax, then race. Dropped 5:00 when I was in that shape or so.

so, if I do end up going out to that race, should be interesting. It’s at 12:00 PM. If I leave at like 5:50 AM, I could potentially get there in plenty of time and relax a bit/warmup good.

only thing i’m “worried” about, is driving on new years day (morning). potentially drunks on the road, and probably lots of cops (have to drive slower).

i definitely want to do it though… so, hope i’m good to go.

5k race sunday (next year i might do the 10k instead), mile on tuesday, then maybe a 6 hour race the following weekend (wtf?) … ;d

peace!

#1066

very light day.

08:50 AM: very light: 52 min ::: (grass, legs might be improving, crazy windy) /// this wind is nuts, feels great

08:30 PM: very light: 1h27m ::: (grass, crazy wind) /// awesome & weird running weather, very intense winds

#1067

mod speed day.

barely the last few days: right big toe, right lateral knee.

bugging a bit just today: left armpit… wtf.

calves sore. not much else sore.

12/28/2018

<= 4:59 mile vs <= 2:59 km:

  • 12 (sub5) + 15 (sub3) = 27 of 50, 23 to go!

diet:

  • diet was light but good.
  • big cauliflower/broccoli stir fry after evening speed

08:30 PM: mod speed: {0.80 mi @ 5:14 min/mi pace, 197 cadence nice - working on lowering it a bit} + {2 x 190m @ 4:24, 4:22 pace} ::: (road, felt meh)

12:00 AM: leg drain: 40 mins

#1068

full rest day.

boca 5k tomorrow.

read lots of Steve Scott stuff today, training journal entries from 1981-1982 etc. incredible stuff. to sum it up: he felt like shit/wrecked/dead/tired very often. he put in 75-95 miles per week. he raced ALOT. had tons of bad races. had tons of great races, setting national/world records. for being a miler, he also raced lots of distances - 5 x 10k in one year, solid times too: 28:XX-29:XX’s. he raced 800m, 1k, 1500m, 1 mile, 2000m, 2 mile, 3k, 5k, and 10k.

i feel alot better about feeling wrecked now… serious.

http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=346165

look what he did in 52 weeks:

that is mind boggling.

12/29/2018

ate good. feel decent.

ate a TON of pizza (probably 1.25 of 2 pies)… lol.

09:50 PM: leg drain: 30 min

#1069

will post the actual log later. but here’s a quick post!

last race of 2018!!!

3rd OA @ a big 5k. that makes 30/45 top3 overall finishes this year!

this is actually a decent 5k to top3… could actually be my most significant 5k top3 thus far. 451 people in the 5k, historically very fast race.

2018 top3 finishes: 30/45 !!!
2017 top3 finishes: 6/12
2016 top3 finishes: 4/10
2015 top3 finishes: 0/2
2014 top3 finishes: 0/1

#1070

Sixty six per cent top three. Not too shabby.

#1071

yeah man hah, especially given the increase in the total amount of races. solid progress this year, very happy about it.

for 2019, need to dial it in … but also be careful/improve health (get rid of some aches etc). want to try and improve fitness/speed/etc, without breaking myself down as much.

thanks man!

peace!

#1072

5k race then 20 miles in the evening!

last race of 2018!!!

2017: 6/12
2016: 4/10
2015: 0/2
2006: 0/1

diet:

  • pre-race food, don’t ever do caffeine again! always wrecks my stomach!
  • 05:35 AM: coconut/coffee drink, banana
  • 06:00 AM: orange juice, toasted english muffin
  • 07:00 AM: warmup + race
  • 09:30 AM: steak quesadilla, caramel frap w/ whipped cream
  • 04:00 PM: 4 x pizza slices, water
  • 06:50 PM: light long run
  • 09:45 PM: beet juice, 2 x orange juice
  • 10:30 PM: 3 x chicken tenders, blue corn chips, tons of water

light stretching: a few times throughout the day

self massage: deep right soleus/peroneals, painful as fu*k.

07:00 AM: 45th race of 2018!!! :exploding_head: Boca 5k: 3rd OA @ 17:44 - big 5k! ::: 2 hours sleep, stomach wrecked, but got it done :sunglasses::exploding_head: (also: windy and hot)

curious to see my finish time photo … i recall it being sub 17:40, ie 17:38. we’ll see.

some comment I wrote to someone about the race:

my ig writeup:

06:50 PM: very light: 3h7m @ {mixing up the very light paces} + {mile 12 = 7:42 light progression, for fun} ::: (grass, felt great) /// might do a 6 hour ultra on sunday, need to prepare a bit to make sure it’s safe (if I do it) /// grass/dirt = my favorite

no wonder i was so healthy in October… so much grass running, feels amazing, like i’m running on pillows.

roads beat me up so much, have to be careful. need to go back to grass for my light runs … but also make sure i do some speed on roads, to make sure i’m race ready on hard surfaces. seems like a bit of a balancing act. when i was doing light on grass AND speed on grass, my road speed eventually got wrecked, just felt haywire and it beat my quads up like crazy. took like 2-3 weeks to re-adapt to hard speed on roads. so, need to prevent losing those adaptations.

#1073

sick shot by the photographer. sfl racing can be ‘beautiful’:

found some photos of me. might buy 1 high res. waiting for all of them to drop.

#1074

Unbelievable year man. Your log is like reading a science journal sprinkled with funny stories and awesome food ads. Sort of like a running magizine really. Anyway, good luck in 2019

#1075

Thanks so much man!!
