ActivitiesGuy Log III: StrongFirst Kettlebells & Deadlifts

From now on when I track the PR’s on the axle deadlift, I’ll be doing it in two broad categories:

a) strongman style - Wagon Wheels, with straps, just absolute brute force as much weight as I can hoist

b) raw (no straps) from the floor using standard height plates, which is more of a grip test than anything

Really good job mate, consistency and effort definitely paying off. Quality

I can’t believe we haven’t seen a video of these wagon wheel deadlifts!

Ask and you shall receive. I gotta admit - they look super cool with no plates at all, just the bare axle & wheels, but that’s only 115 pounds, lol.

I guess it’d be a silly investment to buy multiple sets just because it looks cool.

Felt fantastic today. 585 was easy. For the next few weeks I’ll divide my pulling about 50-50 between conventional barbell work off the floor vs axle deadlifts with the wagon wheels. If all goes well I may attempt 655 (conventional barbell) by year’s end.

Traveling today, did this in a hotel fitness center, hence the odd weight increments (but I was DELIGHTED to see a hotel that had a barbell, plates, and power rack in the gym). Will be back home tomorrow.

Going to be a crazy week at work so this week will probably do very modest, short sessions topping out with three singles in the low-to-mid 500’s before cranking up to a heavier workout on Saturday.

Back to pulling standard height plates tonight; first time I’ve pulled 500 on the axle without straps. Good lift, too.

Spinning Bike (20 Minutes)

Read this as 88 reps with a 10kg bell and though wow that is a lot of volume !!! Doh

Ha! I have always laughed at how people write their workouts differently.

If I’m describing a number of sets and reps, it’s “3x5” = 3 sets of 5 reps.

If I’m describing a single set, it’s “5x315” = 5 reps at 315 pounds.

If I’m describing the whole works, it would be sets x reps x weight = “3x5x315” = 3 sets of 5 reps at 315 pounds - but I know people who would write that some workout differently.

That’s before we even get to the pounds/kilograms issue…

That’s why I’ve started writing 3 x 5 sets. [quote=“ActivitiesGuy, post:1679, topic:213369”]

I write this as 315 x 5. Lol!

I saw you did some spinning. I was beginning to wonder about the endurance portion of your log.

LOL. It has been lagging for sure. But I’ve gotten into a nice groove of Sunday morning for spinning the last two or three weeks that I’ve been home. I don’t feel the need for too much steady state cardio but it is good to get on the bike once in awhile for a little active recovery.
