Pleased with hitting a three-plate front squat. Took a video but it looks like crap (my phone is 5 years old, so I think that’s the problem). Of course I will keep progressing it as practical, but with a 315 FS, I want to get my back squat up to 405 and hit that 585 deadlift, then I’ll re-evaluate my next steps.
Thanks man. I’m still at an early-intermediate-level where I can hit PR’s consistently in training, without really psyching up or resting for them. Last year, @T3hPwnisher made an insightful comment about how the quickest progress in deadlift for many people comes between 400 and 500 pounds; you’re strong enough that you are in a groove with the lift and confident that you can keep moving; past 500, the weights just get damn heavy and each new PR is a battle that requires some serious recovery afterewards. I’m starting to feel similar about squats from 300 to 400 pounds: the road from 300 to 400 has been somewhat of a breeze; past 400, I expect that the weights will just get too heavy for this sort of daily-training-PR stuff, and new PR’s will become increasingly difficult to come by without gaining bodyweight. I’ll get to my 585 DL, 405 BS, and 315 FS combo (keeping my bodyweight around 220) and then figure it out from there.
My wife also hit a back squat PR of 180 today, and continues to make great progress. I think she’ll be hitting 200 squat/250 deadlift by the end of the summer, given the work she continues to put in.
Also, you wear your belt pretty high on the front squats - I’ve only ever seen a couple of people wear it there and that was only on pulls. I always feel like it’s compressing my ribs when I get it that high so I haven’t really tried it that much - do you do it for a specific reason or is it just where it naturally sits for you?
Today was/is the Pittsburgh Marathon, an event in which I participated enthusiastically every year from 2009-2013. Although I’ve since given up that level of distance running, I still have some affection for the sport, so my wife and I left our apartment (right at mile 22 on the course) about an hour into the race and took the course in reverse so we could catch a glimpse and cheer on the leaders. Once we returned to our place, we had a steady stream of runners coming past for the next three hours.
Just playing catch up and nice job on ALL the PR’s lately!! That 550 Deadlift was awesome!! Way to hang in there. That 405 Back Squat I have a feeling is coming very soon!
