Something new today: I wore a belt for deadlifts. I haven’t worn a belt for anything in years, but I do still have a fairly nice belt that my dad bought for me as a teenager, when I still squatted heavy frequently as a football player that dabbled in powerlifting. I’ve had it sitting in my gym bag for awhile, and finally decided today that I wanted to see what it felt like pulling with a belt.
I warmed up without it, then put it on for my last couple reps at 315 and all three pulls at 405. I wore it a little on the loose side, but I did get some of that sensation of really tightening the core to “push out” against the belt. I will have to read a little more and keep tinkering with it, and I’ll still probably do most of my workouts without it because I don’t want the belt to become a “crutch” that I need for any heavy lift. Just want to play around with the belt some, and if I really like it, perhaps I’ll start wearing it for most of my heavy (405+) lifts.
Pittsburgh was basically one big sheet of ice this morning, so my wife vetoed the idea of running outside. We settled for dueling treadmills in our apartment’s fitness center.
First, the 475 deadlift is a non-strapped PR. Taking one step closer to a 500 “competition legal” pull.
Second, at the very end I decide to barbell press a little to see what was in the tank, to my surprise 205 went up fairly easily. I may train this a little bit to see if I can press 225 next year.

It’s really cool to see the carryover all the kettlebell pressing has had to your barbell press - 205lbs is very impressive. And great job with the 475lb strapless deadlift.
