This year, I haven’t run longer than 3-4 miles on the treadmill (although in my 2008-2012 stretch as a semi-competitive distance runner, I would run up to 10 miles on a treadmill). All the longer ones have been outdoors.

I’m hoping to consistently hit a 7-8 mile run (at least once every 2 weeks) for the next couple of months. Once I’ve been running again consistently for 6+ months, I’ll step that up to maybe 10 miles, and probably hold it there. Not really worried about “racing” again, just happy to enjoy the basic please of going for a good long run.

Saturday 12/10

7.1 Mile Run (69 Minutes)

Bitterly cold and windy today, but my wife and I got out there and gritted our teeth through a satisfying run. Now I get to spend the rest of the day in sweatpants, on the couch, watching football and eating. That’s how you do it, my friends.

I feel ya, brah. It was, like, 45 degrees here in Loozyanna, and the wind chill was in the upper 30s! Still, I gutted it out and completed my run.

I know what you’re thinking: Hero is a word that gets tossed out far too easily these days, but…

Funny.

Mid-20’s here, wind chill in the teens.

Temperature is a funny thing though. You so quickly adjust to your own local climate. Those of us in the PA, OH, MI area think we have a tough winter because it gets into the teens and even sometimes to single digits. But the hardiest New Englanders and Minnesotans would tell us we’re a bunch of pansies and that it’s not really cold until minus-20 or so. Likewise, if I moved down South, after a few years I’m sure 40 would start to feel chilly.
