Two notes here:

  1. I much prefer deadlifting first, but the space suitable for DL was taken when I arrived, so since this is my light-weight, high-volume day I saw no real harm in switching the order.

  2. I did all of these deadlifts strapless. Normally I’ve been strapping up when I get to 315, but perhaps on my weekday (light) deadlift day I’ll just go strapless and build a little better grip strength. I went double-overhand, mixed-grip, mixed-grip, double-over, mixed-grip, mixed-grip, double-over.

Distance and time PR for the “comeback” to running this year. Nice to see that I’ve been able to make some real headway with my conditioning while maintaining strength.

Hi. I remember a year ago you had a challenge with another user for kettlebell presses.
I didn’t get to read the outcome and can’t find it now.

Who of you two won?
And are you planning on training for a new challenge anytime soon?

@furo and I had a contest to see who could press our respective 88-pound kettlebell the most times in 5 minutes. He beat me…something like 28 reps for him and 26 for me? I forget exactly what the final tally was.

Not planning a new challenge with any other users at the moment. I had set a goal of deadlifting 500 pounds this summer, which I achieved in July, and have basically maintained since then. After that, I decided to start running some again (as noted earlier in the training log, I was a somewhat competitive distance runner from 2008-2012). I’m working on a “dual goal” of maintaining the ability to deadlift 500 pounds while simultaneously getting my 5K time down around 20 minutes.

I ran a 5K in 18:20 a couple years ago, but at the time I was probably 35 pounds lighter than I am today and was doing virtually zero weightlifting. I have a more well-rounded approach to fitness now, and I think the double-duty combo of a 500 deadlift and a low-20’s 5K would represent a pretty good combination of strength and endurance.
