Had a couple friends in town this weekend so yesterday’s nutrition and sleep was quite subpar. I was a little ticked at first about the deadlifts - 425 was much harder than should have been by the fourth and fifth singles - but then again, I’ll take it (I also ran farther than I have in >3 years yesterday, so it also could have been rexovery). I decided to hit myself with some big volume on leg press, and ultimately I walk away satisfied.

How do you protect your shins when deadlifting? I don’t think I ever asked you that.
I don’t really do anything special - I wear long socks most of the time but I’ve gone without them and never had issues.
This is partly because the bars at my gym don’t have much knurling. If I was lifting with a Texas Power Bar or something else that had sharper / deeper knurling I would be more concerned about it. But I can just about drag the bars in my gym straight up my legs without any problem.
This will be a consideration someday, as I hope to outfit a home gym in the next few years. Cross that bridge when I come to it.

Really liking the high rep leg presses as a complement to the heavy deadlifting. It’s a little too early to say but I think it’s at least doing something for hypertrophy and even fat loss. I’m looking a littler bigger and a little leaner since I added these.
