Nice work as always man. I love the fact that every time I come here I see your pulling 500+. You are about as close to a satisfaction guarantee that you can get on t nation.

Thanks! One of the things about being a dad to a young kid that works out in a home gym plus balancing my career & my wife’s career is that there’s little time for fluff. I’m just doing what seems to work for me - strip away all the non essentials and figure out how to maintain on just about the minimalist of minimalist programs.

I’ve also (like, for real this time) cleanes up my diet some by packing my lunches for work (typical lunch: 12 os grass fed beef with a little random veggie thrown in; this week some shredded carrots). Makes sure I get a good bolus of protein & don’t keep justifying Chipotle and other stuff (once a week is fine; every day is costing me both money and nutritionally). I noticed some pretty quick changes - the little spare tire & love handles I had been carrying have already started to shrink. The real test will be if I can go back down a belt notch & eventually a pant size (I went from size 34 jeans up to 36’s over the last year, but I know I’ll get back into those 34’s if I eat just a LITTLE cleaner).

I know exactly what you mean about young kids, I have 3 aged 9, 7 and 5 and it makes finding time for anything other than work and family is tricky. Couple that with the guilt you feel if you do anything for yourself when the kids are awake, and you could be spending time with them. You get a recipie for excuses and too many reasons not too train. I only get my 2 sessions a week (plus a little conditioning here and there) but i make sure I hit them with consistency and don’t miss them. It makes it harder to get results but it sure as hell beats getting older and weaker.

That’s great, man. We all have to figure out what’s best in the context of our family lives and daily schedules.

Personally, I find it easier to do a 15-20 minute workout every day (for now) than I would doing 2-3 longer sessions, but that may be a possibility. During the week, if my wife will be out for a rehearsal in the evenings, I put the little guy to bed & work our around 8-9PM (take baby monitor to the garage). If she’s home for the night, I just work out as soon as I get home from work. On weekends I often take my little dude out into the garage with me & put him in his little bouncer - he seems to have a good old time watching daddy & mommy lift weights!

Bunch of light squats today. Felt good all workout, good bar speed, but decided not to press the weight at all since I did a good number of heavy pulls this past week. Ready to just hang around and watch the Super Bowl.

The odd weight increments merit a brief comment. I have mostly bumper plates so loading over 600 starts to get a little dicey. I tried to go in a weird order - four bumper 45’s, two bumper 15’s, an iron 45, and an iron 35 would make 625 for a PR. Sadly, as I loaded 625 after crushing 555 without a belt, I realized that clips would not fit on the end of the bar, so I stripped back down to 405 and loaded another bumper 45, a bumper 15, an iron 45, and a 5 pound chip for 625. The clips actually fell off the end of the bar but the plates all stayed on! This is the heaviest I can go unless I jump all the way to 655 (five bumper 45’s plus an iron 45 plus an iron 35 - this might just fit) or get another iron plate. I’m scouting Craigslist to see if anyone is selling 100’s but those seem pretty rare to come by. There’s no major rush.

And boom there it is. Don’t have to wait too long and I know there will be a PR in here. Well done
