A Real Look into the Tea Party

I am attaching a link so you can see the type of presentations that are given at the rallies.

It’s not racist, bigoted or radical.

This presentation gives the reader who has only heard of Tea Parties through the media a better idea of what is discussed at these events, as well as insight as to what they are trying to accomplish with the movement. It shows how similar our situation is today compared to the late 1700’s.

It’s also a good short lesson on our US Founding Fathers and what they stood for.

The movement has gone viral, and it’s presentations like this that truly represent what the movement is about.

Yes Pitt… where were we? Tha camel had not broke the straws back…ummm flip that.

Bush did suck, but we had to play the game and defend our side.

Today we see where this goes as far as any fiscal responsibility compared to the past. Yes we have had bad policies a republicans, but this Obama year was exponentially greater in fiscal irresponsibilty and growth of government into our lives and pocketbook. New Cap Tax, HC, VAT AMNESTY, entitlements etc…

War, Patriot Act. Yes. These were tough issues and pills to swallow. Bush was a fiscal socialist his last 2 years playing along with dems in the majority.

The Tea Party is not happy with Republicans, nor Democrats.

The irresponsible fiscal path we are on now is X10 of what we have dealt with in modern times. Too much liberty robbing, reckless spending. This Tea Party was going to happen either way the 2008 election went.

I’m kinda drunk…

Be careful Rockscar, stay outta that Cope! (I always gave in to the “lovely, sweet, one last, final, going away party, fat ass Dip!” when drunk; Good Luck!)

“…This Tea Party was going to happen either way the 2008 election went…”

At the very least, this certainly can be debated.

Without watching the video, I can say that this statement is debatable at least, and in my opinion probably false. It is most likely not a reference to taxes, but eminent domain. Eminent domain is alive and well and shady as fuck in my opinion.

In addition, your argument that “there is representation” could be argued as somewhat similar to that historical argument of the Loyalists in the pre-Revolution years. The colonists did indeed have representation…according to the British model of government. The old British motto of “no taxation without representation” originally meant that no taxes could be passed without Parliament signing them into law. By the years of the revolution only 3% of all male British subjects—inside Britain itself—could vote, and these were controlled by gentry. The representation for practically all of Britain was “virtual” (see Samuel Johnson’s argument against the colonists), the same representation that the colonists had.

The crux of the colonists’ argument could perhaps be better seen as an argument that a government 3000 miles away with no rapid communication could not hope to stay in touch with the needs, culture, requirements, and “pulse” of people they had no way of communicating with.

The crux or their argument may be reiterated today in a fundamental way–that even though the world enjoys instant communications across the globe and into space, the government has fundamentally ignored their constituents, gone behind their backs, listened to “patrons”–ie lobbyists, marginalized them, and generally given them the finger. Thus, by this line of argumentation, the representation does not actually exist because said “representatives” are deliberately not listening to the people they are paid to listen to.

Whether this holds water or not is up for debate, but IMHO is a different and probably better way to see the debate.

ehh, i think that probably is true. what can be debated is the strength to which the tea party has may not have been as much. every tea party person i knew prior to the election told me prior to the election that mccain was not really a choice for them.

As mccains mom said about the election and the dissatisfaction with mccain as a choice by conservatives, “they will pinch their noses and take their medicine.” Also, mccain would have led us down the same path, just not as fast, had he been elected. I think that is a sentiment shared by most tea party people.

my mom took my daughter to the tea party protest. boy was she mad when she got there. it was not the type of tea party that a 5 year old envisions i guess. . .
