A Better Alternative In Iraq

Focus on the last three paragraphs, which strikes me as one of the better of several bad options we have.

Krauthammer: The scariest name and face in all of political punditry?

Definitely good advice there, I wonder if there’s any of this going on backstage?

It is a good threat. The biggest problem in Iraq is the Iraqi government has been more than happy to let us fight. This may scare them into taking on more of the fight themselves and breaking up the ethnic militias.

This would only push Malaki closer to Sadr and others on the Shi’ite right- and by extension Iran.

The government basically is the Shiite militias.

Sadr’s an evil guy, but unlike some of them he’s an Iraqi nationalist, not an Iranian puppet. That could be important.
