65+ Training

Five hours with lawyers… you didn’t kill any of them, did you?

I’m just catching up. Happy Birthday!!!

Canada K, I didn’t kill any of them. Lawyers can be like teenagers. You didn’t DUDE me.

Thanks Crippler. Good weights with your easy squats today.

I continue to be impressed by your seated dumb bell press numbers. Love to look in here. 68 and still representing. Keep going forever,

Deepest apologies… I got out of the DUDE habit.

Strong work as always Biker. Happy Birthday!

Yesterday I finally finished our move which started day before birthday. Truly a near death experience. Good thing I work out; just not lately. Monday will start shopping for gym with suddenly new choices. Wife loves new house; I haven’t evolved yet. Feels like I’m in limbo and and sleeping in a large storage unit. Wife spent young fortune on packing boxes, soon to be eclipsed by curtain costs. Dog is trying to adjust to an 18 x 18 walled yard, after 13 years in nonfenced fields.

Downsizing is truly for someone younger. I gotta get to a gym.

I hope you adjust to your move and that it soon feels like home. On the plus side, sounds like your wife is happy.

Monday 6/20

Legs

New gym, exploratory workout. Squats 3 x 8 @ 135, 225, 225 on somewhat dated squat rack; hack squats 3 x 10 @ 295; leg press 3 x 10 @ unknown weights so experimented for heaviness. Same gym Saturday morning arms: cable rope curls 3 x 10 @ 130, 150, 150; preacher curls 3 x 8 @ some unknown machine weights (relying on feel since weight indicators are somewhat complicated); dumbbell curls 3 x 8 @ 35, 45, 45. Gym is 5 minutes from house, some really advanced machines, adequate free weights, so I’ll probably adjust in time despite no cage squat stations. 5 am not crowded today.

New residence still feels alien.

I feel your pain. The one thing that keeps me at my gym is the people I know, and I am familiar with the equipment. As much as I complain about it, it’s home. Good luck adjusting to the new environment.

Getting back to the gym…FTW… getting comfortable in the new shack will happen. it takes me some time as well…

OG I’m patient if anything. So far it only feels like nice hotel. Granddaughter and Co. come today so that’ll help. No going back.

Tuesday 7/21 Chest

Warmup, then flat bench 1 x 10 @ 135, 2 x 3 @ 225; dumbbell incline bench 3 x 8 @ 45, 55, 65 (left arm w/70 wouldn’t go up high enough); 3 x 10 parallel cable flyes with maybe 100, 150, 175 (still acclimating); seated angled chest press like upright bench press, 3 x 8 (free weights) @ 90, 140, 160; pec deck 3 x 8 @ 100. Gym starts filling up about 5:15 am, and traffic is manageable at 6:30 am when I leave.

Bunch of 40ish doctors working out were laughing while looking at cellphone photo of guy who’d survived been pinned under a RKV (?) where its manifold burned through guy’s body as far as a lung. This gym is different.

Oh wow! I bet the guy didn’t think it was funny at all!

Thursday 6/23
shoulders

Warmup then OHP 1 x 10 @ 85, 2 x 8 @ 105, 115; seated dumbbell presses 3 x 8 @ 45, 50, 60; machine shoulder presses w/free weights, 1 x 10 @ 90, 1 x 8 @ 160, 1 x 4 @ 180; machine presses with cables 3 x 10 @ 70, 80, 90; then lateral raise machine 3 x 10 @ 45, 60, 70. Gym adjusting w/o coffee and month off. Several older guys there have personal trainers who look like string beans. Comical. No doctors today.

Saturday back

rows, shrugs, SGHPs, dumbbell rows

Monday 6/27
squats & arms

Warmup, then squats 3 x 8 @ 135, 225, 225; front squats 2 x 8 @ 135; machine squats 3 x 10 @ 225, 225, 315. Dumbbell curls 3 x 8 @ 45, 55, 60; 3 x 8 preacher curl machine, weights up to 135 lbs; cable curls 3 x 10 @ 120, 130, 150; tricep machine 3 x 10 up to 130; overhead cable tricep extensions 3 x 10 @ 120,130, 150. Still adjusting to gym.

Really heavy looking arm work, db curls w/60 is really good.

Thanks hel320, but I’m not up to your field accomplishments.

Tuesday 6/28 chest

Warmup, then flat benches 1 x 8 @ 135, 2 x 3 @ 225 ( not full range, seem hard at moment); dumbbell incline bench 3 x 8 @ 45, 55, 65; upper chest machine w/free weights 3 x 8 @ 140, 150, 180; lower chest machine 3 x 8 @ weights up to about 150 I think; pec dec 3 x 8 @ 100, 110, 120.

OG, I did 50 pushups about hour later.

that’s what I am talking about; you sir are one badass

OG, I’ll trade you pushups for some weighted pullups. Yesterday I saw some 39 something guys doing about 4 sets of 10 rep set pushups alternated with 10 rep chins. Very apparent great bicep workout. Today I saw a personal trainer with a 50 something client doing mucho rep pullups. I know I’m stronger than that guy but I’m stuck on 5 per set at moment in new gym. Jeez.

Pullups just seem to demand time and practice no matter how strong you are.
