5's Progression + BBB Variation 2?


Hello! I’m a big fan (from France) of “Beyond 5/3/1”. I’m a beginner lifter.
After an injury I did the 5’s progression for 3 weeks, then 5’s progression with joker sets for 3 weeks.
It is written that the BBB variation 2 is much easier than the original one.
So now I’m asking myself if it’s possible to do a 5’s progression + boring but big variation 2 (week one: 5 sets of 10 reps @ 65%, week two: 5 sets of 8 reps @ 70%, week three: 5 sets of 5 reps @ 75%).


In the book when it says variation 2 is much easier than variation 1, it’s referring to another variation, not the original BBB. The variation 2 that you’re describing would be more difficult than the original version (5x10 @ 50%), but easier than the “variation 1” in that context, which refers to doing BBB at the first working set weight. If you haven’t had any rounds of BBB yet, just start with the original, then think about the variation 2 you’re mentioning. The book also mentions the BBB variations where you work on opposite lifts (5/3/1 bench with BBB press) so things can get mixed up when discussing these.
