Can I use the 531 set and rep scheme for other lifts? Specifically the barbell row? I know I CAN, but is it an effective option for other than the main lifts? Or should I stick with something like 5x5?
You can, and it can be effective depending on what you want to achieve. It all depends.
I suspect a good rule of thumb here would be that the bigger a movement it is, the more likely the 531 setup could be effective. So for something like incline bench it will likely be highly effective; for tricep pushdowns it probably would be less effective compared to other approaches.
