So i have decided to purchase the 5/3/1 book and was curious to which book I should get. I'm assuming the second edition as it is more up to date. Any input is appreciated.

Yep, get the 2nd Edition. It has everything that the first edition has plus some new stuff.
5/3/1 for Powerlifting is only useful if (surprise surprise) you are actually planning on competing and using 5/3/1 for prep.
It's a decent program, but you don't have to pay for it. There's plenty of free information on the internet that can help you with your 5/3/1 questions.
