I was wondering what people are doing for accessory work with 5/3/1
To be more specific I was wondering if anyone uses box squats as accessory work and at what set/rep ranges.
Also does anyone utilize band/chains in accessory work? i.e. floor presses with chains. I think Wendler doesn’t recommend this but I was wondering if anyone has done it anyway and had any success?
If I had access to bands/chains I would probably give them a try. Just try it on 1 of the lifts squat OR bench and see how it works for you. Make sure you have done the program as written first so you can compare progress to any modifications you make.
I just started doing a non-recommended bench routine for 5/3/1, will post in forums in a few months if it works. Was not making any progress with Bench doing the program as written so worst case this new one turns out the same.
I’ve been doing 5/3/1 for about 6 months now. I’ve stalled on squats and bench. I need the most help on bench but I have a good grasp of how the program works.
What sort of set/rep ranges would you use for the band/chain work? I’m fairly new to working with bands and chains but I know a DE cycle would be 3 weeks of 50-60% of 1RM for 8 sets of 3. I’m not sure if that would be too much or not.
for example. my legs day would look something like this
Box Squat w/wo chains 8x3
Leg press 3-4 sets 8-10
Reverse hypers 3 sets 10
sometimes leg curls 3 sets 10
8 set of 3 might be too much but would 3-4 sets of 3-5 be too little?
