300 lb squat

Finally got a 300lb squat the other night. Strength gains have been good the last 13 weeks. just wanted to tell someone, I told my wife and she pretends to care, which is nice but I don’t think she really appreciates it.
current stats 183lbs 5’7" 12%body fat

Cool! I mean about the squat, not the wife’s reaction. Yeah, my wife is the first to notice changes in my physique or body composition, but if I start telling her what I did to achieve results, her eyes glaze over.

Congrats bro!! Keep hitting PRs!!!

Way to go! My goal is to squat 300 by spring 2007. I just PR’d at 275. Always had skinny legs and am working hard to strengthen them up now. Similar stats to yours, 5’6" 168lbs.

My wife’s eyes glaze over too, but few nights ago she put her hand on my arm and gave a surprised “Wow!” Enough encouragement for me.

my wife does appreciate the results just not the day to day stuff. so how long you been at it this is my 3rd year and for the first time i am seeing some really good gains my deadlift if up 60 lbs in 8 weeks still low at 385 my goals are deadlift 3 times body weight squat 2 times body weight bench 2 times body weight

Good job on the PR.

As for the wife thing- I would think most wives/sig. others are going to be like that unless they share the same passions in weightlifting.

Think of it this way- do you react the saem way whenever they share something about one of their “hobbies”. Not trying to lecture, just an observation I’ve even noticed myself.

Good deal on that squat! Keep at it and the weight will get lighter and lighter.

Congrats on the PR!

Nice! 315 isn’t too far away now!

I’ve been at it almost 2 solid years and just starting to see some gains, though still nothing too impressive. I’m looking forward to where I’ll be in 7 years when I’m 45. I feel like I’m just reaching “the prime years!”

Keep at it, and good to hear about your progress.

good job but i know you can do more…remember you are what you repeatedly do…

yup…good job

300 is a great first milestone . I hit 275 , 285 , and 295 as expected . 305 took me 3 attempts ( 2 sessions) , wide stance to parrelel (meet legal) .
aiming to hit body wieght X2 (340 / 350) next spring/summer

feels great …dont it ?

Yes it does. Thanks for all the support
another mile stone last night on bench got 205 felt like i could have done 215 it went that easy but i didn’t have a spotter
and that was right after 1856 and 1952
I love it

on your way to 225…thats another big one .

2 plates is gonna be a huge struggle for me…my bench sucks fiercely, havent cracked 200 yet .kinda discouraging actually . started lifting this past spring at age 42 ;after 20 years of bodily abuse . T-levels in the toilet also .

the gang I lift with encourage me to lift in a PL meet with them . I’d like to , but I dont want to be the first lifter in the history of organized powerlifting to not bench at least 225 (besides the pre-teens).

keep at it

Good stuff, man! Keep at it and you’ll hit your goals. That’s the secret… never stop, never become satisfied and always keep improving.

You’ll be hitting PR’s when your peers are hitting the Rolaids, the sack, the rocking chair, the retirement home, the Viagra.

I have a few older guys training with me. (I’m 36). One is 58 and the other is 62. They both squat, bench, military press, deadlift etc. They both jump rope and the 58 y/o does dips and chins.

So what I’m saying is that 300 is FANTASTIC and you’ve got more in ya. I know it!

Kudos to you. Believe me you will be incredibly stoked to put three 45 pound plates on each side, when you hit 315. No kidding, it’s a great feeling. Keep this in mind when you need some extra motivation.

Three wheels on a side… man you will get a real high when you can squat with that! Think about it.

The good news is that your legs/glutes are major muscles so they are able to make swift strength gains (in relation to smaller muscles like your biceps) so it really shouldn’t be all that long, til you pass that milestone too.

Good man!

Nice round number. PR’s can keep coming. I go 175# and just got a mid-knee rack pull for 575.

Started really back squatting just a few months ago and it is helping all my lifts. I keep the bar way high, but always try for a set of 10 reps.
Feeling good, I get 3 sets. I actually start my mornings with a set of 10, after some minor stretching and warmups. My office is in my warehouse, so the weights are staring at me when I come in.
