Ha ha nah the guy is a trainer and I asked him to give me a lift off in like a minute and u turn around to snag him and he started training a client. I said f it I’ll unrack it myself and have the other guy record. probably shouldve racked it at two but thought there was a good shot at a third.
Gotta remember my shitty workout is still pretty solid. The two reps at 355 moved well enough I thought I could hit a third. I couldve went probably 365x2 my best ever double i think is 375x2. Also did 330 for 18 total reps 48 hours prior.
Have some stuff to get done today so hit it quick.
In case I didn’t say it enough it seems that being in my toes had a huge effect on my shoulders and I can now hit comp bench more often.

Hmm. I thought hook grip was unslippable but then again I’ve seen JP Cauchi lose his hook mid pull and go flying lol
If it happens again I may have to actually grab some knurling. So far grips been completely on the smooth. Only way to describe it was I felt a small shift then my hand exploded open.
Why do you grip on the smooth? Can you do it without hook grip or is it a hook grip only thing?
Pulling mixed grip with sumo is just a terrible starting position in my opinion. I grip the smooth for two reasons, one more bend to the bar and two which no one has ever pointed out it saves the thumb from getting torn up. I may widen my grip just a half inch to get a finger on the knurling to see if it makes a difference. But I might also just keep pulling on the smooth to see if it’ll be a problem or not.
So it only works on a cheat bar lol
I dunno about widening the grip the hook holds the weight anyways so I dunno that having a little knurling under the pinky is gonna do much.
If u don’t already the guy I was talking about has some stuff you could try. Like letting the thumb nail grow longer for a bigger surface area and carving up the surface of the thumbnail with a knife so that there’s like a knurling pattern on your thumb nail. Maybe a bit extreme but maybe for big singles or meets.
I’m deloading next session cos I did that 20k deadlift challenge bull shit yesterday so I’ll pull some singles on the DL bar. I’ll try out hook on the smooth.

Hmm probably nothing serious but that sudden load on the one hand might sprain or strain something easy enough with 500lbs let alone 7-800.
Weighed in light 189, felt pretty good today though. Now that my shoulders seem good I may eventually get that 400+ comp bench after all.
