All of this requires a lot of learning. The Advice for New Guy’s sticky provides definitions that will make this easier. You need to understand this stuff because so many doctors are stupid about these things and you can’t be passive, as you have seen.

Please eval your overall thyroid function via last paragraph in this post.
TSH should be closer to 1.0
Thyroid lab ranges are stupid and normal contains many problems.

  • Have you been using iodized salt to support thyroid hormone production?
  • Do you get cold easily?
  • Outer eyebrows sparse?

This should be monitored. Most common source of hCG in men is testicular tumors, otherwise should be undetectable. I am not familiar with any interpretive levels, doctor might be and dismissed this level.

Any soreness or ache in testes?
Did doc examine them?
Are your testes hanging normally or pulled up tight?

Have you had any hard blows to your head ?

I am wondering about your period of gyno, where E2 or E2+prolactin caused gyno may have shut your HPTA down. An HPTA Restart would be worth doing, but you would need to get other health concerns dealt with that may limit response.

The biggest problem in the field of male hormone care is the doctors who are mostly idiots.

Please read the stickies found here: About the T Replacement Category - #2 by KSman

  • advice for new guys
  • things that damage your hormones
  • protocol for injections
  • finding a TRT doc
  • HPTA Restart

Evaluate your overall thyroid function by checking oral body temperatures as per the thyroid basics sticky. Thyroid hormone fT3 is what gets the job done and it regulates mitochondrial activity, the source of ATP which is the universal currency of cellular energy. This is part of the body’s temperature control loop. This can get messed up if you are iodine deficient. In many countries, you need to be using iodized salt. Other countries add iodine to dairy or bread.
