Haha…what do you do for squats besides SSB? Do you find that a lot of volume or more heavy work brings your squat up?

Paused Squats & High Volume have always really helped my squat. ME singles, doubles, and triples never helped me out. Also really learning to brace and get and efficient walkout made my squats feel like butter.
Some of my favorite squat assistance exercises are:

  • SSB Squats
  • Front Squats
  • AB Roller
  • Concentric Goodmornings
    (I basically do these 4 exercises with pauses, off pins, or with a tempo)

Thanks for the tips. I’ll incorporate them into my training. I’ll show you my program for this whole school year:

Day 1

5/3/1 Press, 1 x AMRAP @ FSL
(Superset 9 x 4 Chins)
100 push-ups

Day 2

5/3/1 Deadlift, 1 x 10 @ FSL
(Superset 9 x 4 Dips)

Day 3

Run (8 x 200 m.), 10 throws

Day 4

5/3/1 Bench Press, 1 x AMRAP @ FSL
(Superset 5 x 10 Dumbbell Rows)

Day 5

5/3/1 Squat, 1 x 15-20 @ FSL
(Superset 9 x 4 Chins)
Push-ups @ AMRAP 10 min.

Combined with furious eating, this should work.

Especially watching in on you Duke, that grip on you something else. I want to get some CoC Grippers so I can compete with you on that!

Thanks man! And Captains of crush have massive carryover to other grip strength related stuff But not vice versa. 100% would recommend them.

Dang, you only strict press 130# and you can push jerk 2x205#? That’s some serious leg drive and technique! I just strict pressed 3x175# last week and the most I’ve managed to push jerk is 1x205#. Teach me!

I basically tried to train my press like an OLY Lifter. I mainly just practice form and leave it to heavy Front Squats, Plyometrics, Overhead Lockouts and Waiters Walks to build everything else. Front squats especially help with my leg drive.
Also full body mobility helped me with all my jerks. I want to learn how to squat jerk eventually and building the mobility for that has helped my push jerk tremendously.

that really is an impressive strict press to push jerk ratio.

my best strict log press is 235x2. my best log press with leg drive is only 280. I get maybe 30 lbs out of my legs. That being said, my strict press is big enough to mostly make up for my shitty leg drive, lol
