'11 LA State Meet

You’ve been competing raw for the last two years?

Yeah, I can’t always afford equipment and because my rhythm is such a big deal for me, equipment sometimes hurts more than helps. Also because I am so wide but relatively short, it can be hard for me to make equipment work right.

11/24/10
camber bar squat: 5x3x365
camber bar bench: 5x5x275
deadlift: 6x1x80% = 485…did first three straps up, last three straps down, playing around with suits, tried a new velocity from a buddy and might try it next week instead of the loose fusion from this week
rack pulls: 3x455, 2x495, 1x545, 1x585
calf raise: 3x10x315
because of turkey day we trained on wed instead of thurs

11/28/10
squat: 5x3x80% = 565…this day sucked. I need to wash the suit and see if it will cinch up abit. Every set, i felt the suit actually go back down, showing that it is too loose. Felt better last week, but not perfect. I am gonna keep at it and maybe also train just wraps abit. If the suit isnt working well for another two weeks, then I will go just wraps, or maybe put on an older suit. The main worry is that if I go in just wraps then I might not qualify for Mens. But whatever.
strongman squat: 1xup, 1xup and down…see previous entries for explanation or PM me
DBBP: 3x10x90
sumo DL: 5x3x315
bike: 5 minutes

I’m actually considering a custom squat suit. I wear a thrice-used DL suit to squat in, but it doesn’t really fit me well. Most gear is [understandably] designed for the male physique and doesn’t necessarily hug where I need it to.

I do think you’d be at a tremendous disadvantage to compete with wraps but no suit.

Curious what you mean about the rhythm. Does gear mess with that for you?

When I squat, my speed is key. And all my lifts have a normal rhythm to them, just a way they feel. When I put on tight equipment my squat gets a lil slower and sometimes doesnt feel right. I get more out of looser fitting stuff that I can move in than if I get in tight suits.
I would be at a great disadvantage, but at this point in my life, I am competing for fun. I am only doing equipment for this meet to qualify for Mens in july in mississippi because it is so close.
After all this, I will try to lose more weight and then might just buy a new hardcore or other older generation suit.

Good luck this weekend.

11/30/10

Squat: 3x10x135
Bench press: 5x3x80% = 405 Did first three sets in just the shirt, did last two sets with a belt on and setting the shirt abit just to be sure i could touch and the shirt felt right.
2bd med grip bench press: 5x3x405 with shirt
t-bar row: 3x3+3x3 plates
db mil press: 3x8x60
inc bench: 3x10x135
lat pull: 3x10xM
db flyes: 3x10x40
db curls: 3x10x30

tendonitis and old bicep issues acting up abit, but not like it used to. I had to stop using a shirt for awhile because when it pinched a spot on my bicep, my whole left arm would shut down. Still feel it, but after i do the set and not during. It kicks up when squats and bench get heavy.

12-2-10

CAMBER BAR SQUAT: 5x3x365
camber bar bench: 5x5x275
deadlift: 8x1x80% = 485…Did these in a new Titan velocity suit that was custom made for a training partner. Did them in 2 rep bursts with about 10 seconds between
rack pulls: 2x495, 1x545, 1x585…finally was able to lock out and hold 585
calf raises: 10x315, 2x8x365

Things are feeling really good on dl

12-5-10

So, my suit was feeling wierd last week,…after washing it I saw a huge split in the main seam in the back, so thats why it was feeling strange.

I lowered the weights by 5% and put on an old HardCore…and it worked better. Becaus of lowering the target weight, I did the same weights as last week and felt much better doing it.
Also changed up the exercises abit. I believe the suit was screwing me up so much last week and the week before that my quads and hamstrings were taking more punishment than they were getting good work, so I changed things up abit.

Squat: 3x2x85% = 565
Overloads: 10 seconds x 635, 675
DBBP: 3x10x90
Pause Squat: 2x3x365 + 60 lbs chains
Superset-- Leg Press 400 (weight without platform) x 10 + hang clean 5x135

An old suit and my normal shitty wraps felt better than the newer suit did before. One of the reasons is that the newer suits have thicker straps and seams that run down the back of the straps. With my shoulder flexibility issues, these sits make it feel like the bar is floating abit and not right on my back.

12-7-10

squat: 3x10x135
bench press: 5x2x85% = 425…did first 3 sets without a belt, and last two with
t-bar row: 3x3+3x3plates and a 25
db mil press standing: 3x8x60
inc bench: 3x10x135
lat pull: 3x10xM
chest flye; 3x10x40
db curls: 3x10x40
db shrugs: 3x12x100

shirt had my elbow aching a little so i didnt do the board press. My lkockouts feel great and i purposely did alot of tricep work at the beginning of the cycle with doing higher weights 2 fingers in on grip. Plus i get in some tri work on fridays.

12-7-10

SQUAT: 3x10x135
bench press: 5X2X80% = 425…first 3 sets no belt, last 2 with
t-bar row: 3x3+3x155 plate weight
db standing mil press: 3x8x60
inc bench: 3x10x135
lat pull 3x10xM
chest flye: 3x10x40
db curls: 3x10x40
db shrugs: 3x12x100

12-9-10

CAMBER BAR SQUAT: 4X3X395
camber bar bench: 5x5x275 + 30 lbs chains
deadlift: 10x1x80% = 485
done as bursts of singles with 20-30 sec rest
rack pulls: 2x495, 1x545, 1x595

12-13-10

Squat: 5x2x85% = 565…felt really good today, using the old hardcore and some worn out wraps
strongman squats: 2 x up and down starting at 365 and adding 20 lbs after each rep, then working back down, so each set was 9 reps: 365, 385, 405, 425, 445, 425, 405, 385, 365
DBBP: 3X10X90
SUPERSET SQUAT STANCE LEG PRESS: 3X10X400 PLATE WEIGHT + HANG CLEAN 3X5X135

12-14-10

SQUAT: 2x8x135, 6x225
bench press: 6x2x85% = 425…did first three sets no belt, last three with
t-bar row: 3x3+3x3 plates
db mil press: 3x8x60
preacher curls: 3x30x15

elbows were aching real bad, so cut work short and did some joint work. when squats and bench get real heavy, my old problems start coming back, plus we’ve been real busy at the store so my back and forearms are tired and aching. I have been told that my injuries are technically “healed,” but there is so much old scar tissue that cant be worked out. It is the scar tissue which is actually causing the problems.
I will make up some work on friday as well as more joint health work.

12-16-10

cAMBER BAR SQUAT: 5x3x395
camber bar bench: 5x5x275
deadlift: 3x1x85% = 515 3x1x90% = 545
snatch grip deadlift: 3x2x315(hook grip)

Didnt do rack pulls because of the weights being so close as ones from the floor.
Felt really easy for 90%, but it should be.

Been gone for abit. Because of family issues most of my team couldnt get to the gym Sunday so I had to modify the last two sessions.

12-21-10
Squat: 4x1x90% = 605…felt good and easy
bench press: 4x1x90% = 455…same, easy, having a few issues but things are going good
superset behind neck press+shrugs: 3 sets, bnp-135x8…shrugs-315x8
lat pull, 3x10xM
db curls
preacher curls: 3x20x15

12-23-10

camber bar squat: 5x3x395
camber bar bench: 5x5x225
DL : 1x565, 1x585…585 is a conv PR but it went like shit, lost my upper back and my grip right after lockout. Not really worried cuz I have never had a good test day on DL in the gym. My best pull ever was a miss at the lockout with 640 and before that on my test day I had trouble with 585.

12-28-10

sQUAT: 1x635, 2x1x655…was suposed to go to 675, but depth was an issue and we decided to hit a solid with 655
bench press: 10x225, 5x275, 3x3x315
rdl: 3x5x315
